Railway Market - Samut Songkhram
This unusual market in Thailand is located directly
on a railway track. Whenever the train passes by, both people and items
have go quickly before it arrives. It is a very clever way of
optimizing space. Only two trains a day, so not the busiest railways line. This type of market is very unusual in Thailand and more common in other parts of Asia ( India for example )
As soon as the train passes by, business continues as usual. The market is located in Samut Songkhram province in Thailand. The market on the railway tracks in Samut Songkram province, commonly known as “Mae Klong”, is located approximately 70 km southwest of Bangkok.
A 2 carriage train travels the 33 km between Baan Laem station and Mae Klong Station 8 times a day [ 6.20, 08.30, 09.30, 11.20, 11.30, 14.30, 15.30 and 17.40 ].
The market is also locally known as "Talat Rom Hup" due to the necessity of the shop keeper having to quickly retract their awnings whenever a train passes. In this market, the shopper bravely walks along the train track dodging the occasional train. The locals sell mainly agricultural produce, including delicious fruit, as well as fresh seafood. A fascinating addition to your itinary with many other attractions within the vicinity.
